Texans are facing record-breaking freezing temperatures and state-wide electricity crisis.

You might expect their Ssenator to be the person raising money to support them – but no, Ted Cruz went on a trip to Cancun, Mexico, during the crisis.

Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, on the other hand, raised more than $1 million in less than a day for Texans in need.

The Democratic congresswoman said the seven-figure sum will be split among The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, Ending Community Homeless Coalition (ECHO), Family Eldercare, Houston Food Bank, and Feeding Texas, who are all working to support vulnerable citizens most in need during this crisis.

The harsh winter storms have left some Texans without electricity or water, leading to heavy criticism of Cruz and his trip.

Just before announcing her fundraising effort, AOC urged Texans to call for Cruz’ resignation.

Ocasio-Cortez chose not to highlight her compare her actions to Cruz’s approach to the crisis: by quite literally flying away.

Instead, others took to Twitter to do that for her.

Cruz has not yet made a public statement on Ocasio-Cortez’s fundraising feat.
