Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may have moved into her Washington DCapartment months ago, but she has just discovered a key kitchen feature - the garbage disposal.
On Monday, the New York Democratic congresswoman shared a video to her Instagram story informing her more than 3m followers that there is a “monster living in my sink”.
“Okay everyone, I need your help because I just moved into this apartment a few months ago and I flipped this switch and it made that noise and it scared the daylights out of me,” AOC said.
The congresswoman’s confusion prompted her followers to explain the sound was made by a garbage disposal in her sink drain, used to shred food waste into smaller pieces so the drain does not become clogged.
“I am told this is a garbage disposal, I have never seen a garbage disposal, I never had one in any place I’ve ever lived, it is terrifying, I don’t know what to use it for or what it’s purpose is,” the youngest-ever congresswoman said in a follow-up post to her story.
On Twitter, Ms Ocasio-Cortez’s reaction to the appliance was met with amusement.
