Greta Thunberg has come to the end of her two-week odyssey and reached New York, where she travelled to from Sweden by boat.

The 16-year-old environmental activist tweeted a picture of herself nearing Manhattan yesterday, after tweeting updates throughout her trip in a small wind-powered boat.

She followed up with a photo of herself on the subway, which runs on electricity.

Her goal was to attend the United Nations climate summit on 21 September in New York without leaving a carbon footprint.

Many of her followers have expressed admiration for her commitment to tackling climate change despite the less than luxurious journey across the Atlantic.

New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was among those who welcomed Thunberg to the city.

Her goal was to attend the United Nations climate summit without leaving a carbon footprint.
