Ann Widdecombe was confronted by a furious man on Channel 5’s Brexit Debate on Wednesday night who accused the politician of “peddling hate”.
In the clip, which has gone viral, Jeremy Vine holds out the microphone to an irate Remainer who accosts Widdecombe in no uncertain terms:
This country is being torn apart by fear, by resentment, by intolerance. I don’t recognise this country any more. Because of the hate that you peddle. The hate.
Widdecombe attempts to respond but is unable to before the man in question has finished berating her.
It was not the only telling moment during the programme, another being the moment when Michael Howard referred to the referendum result of 1916, the Conservative politician a mere century out of date.
The good people of Twitter, as is to be expected, had some thoughts.
