The governor of Kansas, Sam Brownback, is set to declare October as "zombie preparedness month".
No, the governor has not lost his mind, at least as far as we can tell. The idea behind the... 'initiative' is that if the state can contend with an undead apocalypse, it can be prepared for anything.

Kansas, in America's Midwest, is situated at the heart of "Tornado Alley" and the month will raise awareness about combating the effects of floods, radiological events and earthquakes.
Using the idea of a zombie apocalypse is intended to stoke the popular imagination, and the month will provide "a fun spin on traditional disaster preparedness", according to the official state government website.
Governor Brownback (above) will be signing the proclamation on Friday morning in his ceremonial office, according to an official press release.
