Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West are one of the biggest celebrity power couples in the world, but reports have started to circulate (again) that they may be getting a divorce.
So where did these rumours come from?
Page Six was first to report a “divorce is imminent” and the pair are “done,” claiming Kardashian West has hired attorney Laura Wasser – who is popular with celebrity clients.
The New York Post’s story alleged the couple have been living separate lives, with the singer living at his Wyoming ranch and not joining the family for the holidays.
What are the alleged reasons?
It reported that Kardashian West wants to focus on becoming a lawyer and her prison reform campaign while West does not want to be part of the reality-TV lifestyle.
But it’s not the first time rumours have circulated about a potential split
In July, West tweeted and then deleted: “I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf [sic] for ‘prison reform,'” appearing to refer to a criminal justice reform summit attended by his wife and the rapper Meek Mill in 2018.
Kim has been seen without her wedding ring, adding fuel to the fire.
Kardashian West was spotted without her wedding ring over the Christmas period, which could mean anything, but understandably people are speculating.
TMZ then reported that the couple have been in marriage counselling and went on a family holiday late last year in an effort to save their union.
The celebrity news website was allegedly told Kardashian West had been ready to proceed with divorce proceedings last year but did not want to do so while West was experiencing a bipolar episode.
Their sources wanted to emphasise there is no third party involved, citing differences from lifestyle to politics, and claimed no final decision has been made.
There were rumours Kim is seeing someone else, but this was quickly debunked
After the divorce claims were published, a rumour spread that Kardashian West was now dating CNN political commentator and ex-Obama adviser Van Jones – but this has been debunked.
The pair had also previously met at the criminal justice reform summit.
E! News, which is part of the network which aired Keeping Up with the Kardashians, also reported the reality star and rapper are effectively going their separate ways but that Kardashian West is yet to file for divorce.
Kardashian West’s attorney Wasser previously presided over her divorce proceedings with basketball player Kris Humphries, and has also represented Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears.
How are fans reacting?
Fans reacted on social media to the reports, calling the alleged news “heartbreaking”. Others have expressed doubt on the veracity of the reports given it’s not uncommon for rumours of divorce to circulate.
The famous couple married in May 2014 and have four children. Neither have publicly commented on this latest round of reports.
