The Rock has long flirted with the idea of running for the office of president of the United States but now it actually seems like he’s serious, at least in the realms of his own television show.
Young Rock is a forthcoming show by NBC which will recount Dwayne Johnson’s life from his humble beginnings to his days in college and then his eventual rise to superstardom firstly through WWE and then as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
However, judging by the trailer the show appears to not be a conventional biopic. The show, although primarily focused on Johnson when he was a child and a teenager, does appear to be told through flashbacks by The Rock who is running for president in 2032. Yes, you read that correctly.
Johnson is running a presidential campaign 11 years in the future through his own television show.
It’s a bizarre concept to conceive but judging by this trailer it does appear to work in the reality of the show. It doesn’t reveal if Johnson is running as a Democrat or a Republican (although he did back Joe Biden in the 2020 election, so we’d guess the former) but he does look to have quite a snazzy campaign and we know that America loves a celebrity turned politician.
Calls for The Rock to run for president started shortly after Trump was sworn in as president, as the actor actually had better polling numbers than the 45th POTUS. He had also been praised for delivering stirring speeches but has joked that he couldn’t be president because his Jumanji co-star Kevin Hart would probably mess it up for him.
As mentioned, The Rock did publicly back Biden in the election and the 48-year-old revealed that after the Democrat was declared as the winner that he wept.
We’ll have to wait and see whether there will be any tears when his show airs, which is set to debut on February 16th.
