Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid: A timeline of the couple’s on-off relationship amid reports they have split

Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik and model Gigi Hadid have reportedly broken up amid speculation over an argument between Malik and Hadid’s mother.

The couple share one-year-old daughter, Khai, who was born in September 2020 and have been romantically linked since 2015.

Here, we take a look at the couple’s relationship history.

November 2015: Reports began to suggest that Malik and Hadid were seeing each other. Malik had previously been engaged to Little Mix member Perrie Edwards, while Hadid had dated singer Joe Jonas.

December 2015: Malik publicly confirmed their relationship by posting a loved up black and white photo of the couple on his Instagram.

January 2016: Malik attempted to play down their relationship, telling Apple Music the pair were just “good friends”. Later that month, Hadid appeared in Malik’s steamy music video for his single Pillow Talk.

April 2016: The pair appeared on a Vogue magazine cover together as a couple, with the romantic images shot in Naples.

May 2016: They attended the Met Gala together wearing futuristic outfits for that year’s theme of Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.

March 2018: They shocked fans by revealing they had split up. They each released separate statements praising their former partner, with Malik saying Hadid “has such an incredible soul”.

June 2018: The couple appeared to have reunited as media reports emerged saying the pair had been seen looking very much in love. Malik told GQ “we’re still in contact” but didn’t want to “label” the relationship.

January 2019: The pair were rumoured to have broken up again and media reports began linking Hadid with US TV personality Tyler Cameron.

February 2020: Through a Valentine’s Day Instagram post, Hadid confirmed she and Malik were back together calling him her “valentine”.

April 2020: Hadid confirmed she was pregnant and expecting the couple’s first child together after rumours from the press. She told Jimmy Fallon: “Obviously, we wished we could have announced it on our own terms, but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support.”

September 2020: Their daughter Khai was born and the couple announced the news with an Instagram post showing their newborn’s hand wrapped around Malik’s finger.

October 2021: Malik has denied reports that he “struck” Hadid’s mother – model and TV personality Yolanda Hadid – during an argument. Reports suggest the couple have now split up.
