Paul Newman made millions from his salad dressing; now Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have their own lucrative sideline in the supermarket, with an acclaimed wine that drinkers in the UK can buy on the high street for the first time.
Marks and Spencer will offer a taste of tinseltown, via Provence, by selling bottles from the celebrity couple’s vineyard in France for £18 per bottle.
The supermarket warned that interest was likely to be high and stocks limited for the £18-a-bottle Chateau Miraval rosé. The couple were married at the 17th-century Chateau Miraval estate in August last year.
M&S drinks buyer Emma Dawson said the wine may become “the most famous rosé in the world”, adding: “Not only does Miraval boast A-list owners, it is a lovely crisp rosé.”
The first 1,000 cases of the wine sold within hours of being put up for sale on the internet in 2013. Wine Spectator magazine called the first batch “refined and elegant”.
The reviewer gave it 90 points out of 100 and it became the only rosé to be included in the magazine’s top 100 wines of that year.
