Why Leonardo DiCaprio will probably take his mum to the Oscars this year

There's a reassuring predictability about Leonardo DiCaprio's love life: he always seems to become single when there's any chance he may have to attend a red-carpet event.

And just like clockwork, DiCaprio, who is a shoo-in for a best actor Oscar nomination for his performance as the hairy frontiersman Hugh Glass in The Revenant, is reported to have split from his latest girlfriend, the underwear model Kelly Rohrbach.

There were suggestions that the dumping may have been a tactical move to increase his chances of winning an Oscar, as Rohrbach has just been cast as CJ Parker, the role made famous by Pamela Anderson, in the Baywatch film remake which is unlikely to be looked upon encouragingly by the Academy.

Despite having previously had two serious girlfriends in the forms of Gisele Bündchen and Bar Rafaeli (both models, of course), DiCaprio, 41, seems loath to settle down and has gone from one Victoria's Secret starlet to another. And thus, he has taken his mum Irmelin (left), as his plus one to every awards ceremony since 2011.
