People are sharing the most incredible stories about their parents and grandparents

A Twitter user has asked the people of the internet for great stories about their grandparents and the tales are extraordinary.

The so-called 'Irish Atheist' began the fun after tweeting:

Tell me about a super-cool thing one of your ancestors/older family members did.

The request went viral and inspired a host of remarkable tales from across the globe.

So often it feels as though the internet is a cesspit of moral filth, a home for Nazi apologism and barely disguised bullying. But here, with strangers bonding over the exploits of their ancestors, one could feel the world becoming a little bit smaller and a genuine sense of camaraderie.
