A Conservative MP said he watches online porn, took drugs at university and would "snog" Theresa May, all in one interview.
James Cleverly answered "yes" when asked whether he had looked at porn on the internet and taken illegal drugs, in a remarkably candid interview on BBC Radio 5 Live. "I had a little dabble with marijuana," he said. Asked if he inhaled, the MP replied: "Of course, that's the point, to paraphrase Obama," but he added: "I don't recommend it, it's a waste of money, waste of time and just not very good for your future prospects."
The MP for Braintree, Essex, was asked to play a game of "snog, marry, avoid". He said he would kiss both the Home Secretary and singer Rita Ora, marry former shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper, and avoid David Cameron's biographer Isabel Oakeshott.
Mr Cleverly, who entered Parliament in May, also revealed his leadership ambitions, answering "me" when asked who should replace the PM.
The backbench Tory even revealed he was last sick from drinking during his time in the Army Reserve, which he left around 10 years ago. On Tony Blair, he said: "I don't rate him. He was a fantastic navigator but he had no idea where he was navigating to."
Later, in his defence, he said on Twitter: "Shorter headline for you. 'James Cleverly was once 20'."
