Losing weight, especially if you do it on your own can be a harrowing process.

New Zealander Simone Anderson, 24, decided to share her two-year weight loss journey, which began on August 29 2014, going from 26st 6lbs (169kg) to just over 12st (77kg).

The following timelapse video demonstrates just how much she lost and, quite frankly, it’s astonishing:

Anderson is very open about every aspect of her journey, including the surgery she underwent. On her Facebook page she talks about several surgeries, mostly to get rid of the loose skin on her stomach and back following the rapid weight loss.

How did she do it?

I have always struggled with my weight and have often resorted to easy fix diets where I would lose a lot of weight but as quickly as I lost it I would gain it back and more…making this a public journey will aid so much in motivating me and keeping me accountable for my actions.

I don’t have a specific diet plan or one way of eating… I eat all types of food and try and mix it up so I don’t get bored. I don’t eat junk food and I try and stay away from too much processed sugar. The rest is just common sense everything in moderation etc.

But it's not just clean eating...

Anderson exercises every day for as much as two hours:

I play three sports; netball, basketball and water polo. I do classes at the gym... have one personal training session each week as well a boot camp once a week.

Anderson's story seems to resonate with people all over the world because of her honest weight loss approach...

And because she shares images of her excess skin and scars, which is a part of the process people don’t tend to see

Almost 50,000 people have liked her video, and continue to send her messages of love and support...

Her body journey is inspiring her followers to make positive changes in their own lives too...

Anderson's posts are as much about her weight loss as they are about empowering, and encouraging women to forge positive relationships with their own bodies.
