The New York Times ran the most awkward opening paragraph on the day David Bowie died

News broke on Monday morning that David Bowie had died at the age of 69, following an 18 month battle with cancer.

Sadly, The New York Times went to print on their Monday morning edition without being able to amend the introduction to an article which previewed an upcoming concert in his honour at Carnegie Hall, as brought to our attention by Larry Bundy Jr.

The introductory sentence read:

It's a good time to be David Bowie, below.

What may be less fortunate, is that an online version of the article originally held the opening sentence when published at 11.59pm EST, after news of Bowie's death had broken.

The article has since been amended with an update reporting Bowie's death.

The Daily Mail also experienced a Bowie-related moment of embarrassment, as their Monday edition featured an interview with David's first wife Angie.

The spread featured claims that the Brixton-born star forced her into a "debauched open marriage" and "'poisoned' their son against her".

Which jars a little with their front page today...
