The Miss Universe crown was given to the wrong person and it was so painfully awkward

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, we present to you one of the most awkward occurrences in human history.

An incident so cringeworthy you will be rendered completely useless for the rest of the day/week/month/year.

You have been warned.

This was the horrendously awkward moment the wrong contestant was announced winner of Miss Universe 2015 and had to be de-crowned.

On Sunday night, Miss Colombia was incorrectly crowned Miss Universe because host Steve Harvey read his cue cards wrong.

The look on the face of Miss Philippines when she was declared the actual winner pretty much sums up how everyone felt...

In Harvey's defence, as one Twitter user highlighted, the cue card in question was a complete and utter mess.

The font size. The layout. The utter state of it.

While Harvey probably wanted the ground to open up beneath his feet and swallow him (and his embarrassment) whole, he took full responsibility for the blunder.

He later said:

I'd like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake.
