If Rangers FC notices a sudden spike in merchandise sales, they’ll have K-pop group STAYC to thank for that.

The six-piece girl band caught the eye of Scottish Premiership followers after performing a concert in Dallas last week.

Members Sumin, Sieun, Isa, Seeun, Yoon and J, donned sporting jerseys for the show, in an apparent nod to the city’s beloved baseball team, the Texas Rangers.

The only issue was… they got the wrong Rangers, and were in fact wearing the footballing strip sported by legends Paul Gascoigne and Ally McCoist back in 1996/7.

The retro look may have caused confusion among the locals, but Twitter/X couldn’t have been more delighted by the apparent gaffe.

“OK fine I will buy all their albums,” one commentator joked.

“Rangers are the kings of K-Pop,” another footie fan wrote.

“Get them added to the match day playlist,” demanded a third.

While another suggested that maybe the wardrobe choice hadn’t been a blunder, and maybe the girls really do “just love vintage Brian Laudrup headers”.

It’s not the first time K-pop stars have raised eyebrows with their outfit choices.

Back in March, singer Chaeyoung, of the band TWICE, promised to “review” her wardrobe after wearing not one, but two deeply offensive tops in the space of a week.

The 23-year-old issued a public apology for sporting a t-shirt featuring a swastika just days after donning a piece of QAnon merch.

Following an understandable backlash, she shared a statement via Instagram in which she “sincerely apologize[d]” for the top, which she was wearing in an earlier photo posted to the platform.

The picture showed her in a tee emblazoned with an image of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious, who was wearing a t-shirt branded with the Nazi symbol.

Photos of Chaeyoung wearing the swastika tee (left) and QAnon top (right) were swiftly deleted from Instagram(chaeyo.0/thinkaboutzu/Instagram)

In her public apology, written in both Korean and English, Chaeyoung said: “I sincerely apologize regarding the Instagram post.

“I didn't correctly recognize the meaning of the tilted swastika in the t-shirt I wore.

“I deeply apologize for not thoroughly reviewing it, causing concern. I will pay absolute attention in the future to prevent any situation similar from happening again.”

At least the only people STAYC offended with their mishap were Texan baseball fans – and, presumably, a fair few Celtic supporters.
