Reporter compliments Rashida Jones on her tan. 'I'm ethnic,' she replies

Rashida Jones endured a painfully awkward red-carpet moment at the Screen Actors Guild Awards when a journalist complimented her on her "tan".

"You look like you’ve just come off an island or something," gushed the presenter. "You're very tan, very tropical."

"I mean, you know, I’m ethnic," replied a deadpan Jones.

After a moment of manic, wide-eyed laughter from the TNT correspondent, the subject was swiftly changed.

Speaking about her background previously, the 38-year-old actress and daughter of music producer Quincy Jones has said: "I’m lucky because I have so many clashing cultural, racial things going on: black, Jewish, Irish, Portuguese, Cherokee. I can float and be part of any community I want. The thing is, I do identify with being black, and if people don’t identify me that way that’s their issue. I’m happy to challenge people’s understanding of what it looks like to be biracial."
