Professional comedians tell Dapper Laughs: you're not actually funny

More than 50,000 people have signed a Change.org petition calling on ITV 2 to drop his show, footage has emerged of him apparently joking about rape and now a group of leading comedians have written an open letter to Dapper Laughs complaining that he is not actually funny.

Forty-four comics including Jenny Éclair, Isy Suttie, Arabella Weir and Daniel Sloss signed an open letter published today on comedy site Chortle against Dapper Laughs, real name Daniel O'Reilly. They take issue with Dapper's defence of his work, where he said "some comedians push the boundaries in the name of entertainment... I think it’s important that if we over step the mark and cause upset that we apologise", writing:

We want to say in a loud, clear voice to fans of British comedy and anyone else interested that we do not believe the harassment of women or that misogyny dressed up as 'banter' is pushing any kind of boundary whatsoever

Update: An ITV spokesperson has now said that in the light of comments made by Dapper Laughs outside of the TV show the broadcaster would not be commissioning a further series. "We have given careful thought to the recent criticism of the character Dapper Laughs, which has focused on his activities outside of the ITV2 programme, [for which the] content was carefully considered and complied. We have taken the decision that we will not be considering this show for a second series."
