INSTAGRAM/ PETER DEVITO
New York-based photographer Peter DeVito is giving people with skin conditions the chance to respond to insensitive questions they are asked about their appearance.
Previously, DeVito concentrated on people who suffered from acne but now he has turned his attention to those who struggle with vitiligo, alopecia and albinism.
Rather than photograph their portrait directly, the models have the usual unthoughtful questions that they are asked attached to their faces.
After they have their photograph taken they are given the opportunity to respond to these comments in a second photo shared in an Instagram post.
These are the results.
Peter found his subjects through Instagram, modelling agencies and a company called CHNGE and all were open to talking about the problems and questions they constantly face.
Talking to the Metro, Peter said:
I want my photos to show people how we need to photograph all the different types of people in the world.
It’s the only way to accurately represent the world we live in.
