The Obamas’ brilliant reply to a wedding invite

Ok, quick straw poll... Do you miss Barack and Michelle Obama?

If you answered yes, prepare to experience another pang of nostalgia for the years 2008 to 2016.

Twitter user Brooke recently shared a letter her parents had received in the mail (like email, but it arrives on paper through a special port in your door).

The envelope was stamped with "The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama" and within it contained this note.

Congratulations on your wedding. We hope that your marriage is blessed with love, laughter and happiness and that your bond grows stronger with each passing year. This occasion marks the beginning of a lifelong partnership, and as you embark on this journey, know you have our very best for the many joys and adventures that lie ahead.

You see, Brooke's parents had sent the Obamas an invitation to their wedding in March, and the former President and First Lady (or at least a member of their staff) saw the invite and replied.

This isn't the first time the Obamas have responded beautifully to correspondence from fans and admirers. Aubrey, another Twitter user, shared the letter she received back from the White House after sending the Obamas one of her high school graduation announcements.

In fact, Barack Obama put a huge emphasis on letters during his time at the White House, as detailed in this most excellent piece by Jeanne Marie Laskas for The New York Times.

At the beginning of his term, Obama said he wanted to read 10 letters a day, these were later known as 10LADs and were delivered to him in a purple folder in his briefing book.

In 2010 all mail received by the White House was scanned and a year later used to create daily word clouds. The images of these clouds would then be distributed around the White House to give policy makers a picture of exactly what was on America's mind on any given day.

No prizes for guessing who wasn't invited to Brooke's parent's wedding.
