Modern Iran in two tweets

On Wednesday, Professor Maryam Mirzakhani made history by becoming the first woman to win the most prestigious prize in mathematics. Now Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has made history by tweeting a picture of her without a headscarf, or hijab.

Wearing the hijab is compulsory in Iran, and while President Rouhani, whose Twitter account is reportedly run by aides, tweeted a picture of her uncovered hair, one Iranian newspaper photoshopped a headscarf onto Professor Mirzakhani as part of their coverage.
