When Joe Biden is inaugurated in January, his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will hold the distinct honour of becoming the first-ever First Lady to work a full-time job.

Jill Biden earned her doctorate in education from the University of Delaware in 2007. In 2009, she started teaching English at Northern Virginia Community College.

Prior to her husband’s terms as vice president, she also taught English at Delaware Technical & Community College for 15 years.

If you’re at all curious about what a former Second Lady might be like as an educator, there’s no better place to look than Rate My Professor.

The website hosts reviews of university lecturers for students interested in learning about their teaching styles and courses.

And Biden is no different. Her two Rate My Professor pages collectively have over 70 reviews from students who, for the most part, enjoyed having her as a teacher.

Her students at Delaware Technical & Community College praised her as a lecturer. “I was tearing the last day of class,” one wrote in a brief review.

“I was in her class two years ago,” another said. “I didn’t really like her at first but I grew to respect her and I realised that all she wanted to do was to help us. If you do the work you will pass her class. She knows how she wants things done and she makes sure you do them that way. I only wish I attended her class more than I did.”

Similarly at her current workplace, Northern Virginia Community College, students were happy with Biden’s teaching.

“She really cares about each and every one of her students,” one especially grateful student said. “She has a big heart and a passion for education. Thank you so much for being the best teacher EVER Dr. Biden!”

Others warned that Biden is tough to please when it comes to grading. “Be ready to grind to pass the class,” one student wrote. Several reviews also criticised her for the lack of rubric in her marking.

Several thought her classes were pretty difficult. “She is definitely a little tough at times making the class needlessly hard but she's knowledgeable and sweet,” another said in their review. “Would recommend, but you will have to work a little bit.”

Though Biden’s classes may not be a breeze, the mostly positive reviews paint her as a fun but firm lecturer. Plus, who wouldn’t want a future First Lady as their English teacher?
