People are accusing Ivanka Trump’s shoe brand of stealing designs

It’s not been a great week for Ivanka Trump’s clothing line.

Department chain Nordstrom announced they were dropping the line due to declining sales – most likely caused by people boycotting the brand.

However, that isn’t the only problem the line is currently facing.

Back in June, Italian Italian footwear brand Aquazzura filed a trademark lawsuit against Ivanka Trump’s shoe line, accusing them of “repeated infringement” and “deceptive trade practices”.

In particular, they claim that the Trump Hettie shoe is far too close to comfort to Aquazzura‘s best selling Wild Thing shoe.

A statement from Aquazzura at the time read:

Aquazzura strives to create unique designs and cannot allow its well-known and signature styles to be copied as it undermines Aquazzura’s brand identity and confuses the public. Over the past two years, Aquazzura has repeatedly objected to Ivanka Trump’s shoe designs and is now taking action in court.

Of course, people are using the Trump brand’s current drama to remind others about the lawsuit.

People have also spotted alleged similarities between other Ivanka Trump shoes and existing designs from more designers.

Trump’s shoe brand is licensed by co-defendant Marc Fisher. in June 2016, the company's CFO Matthew Burris told The Huffington Post that the “lawsuit is without merit” and “aimed at generating publicity.”

In a court document Ivanka also denies any wrongdoing, maintaining that she has not engaged in any “infringement..., unfair competition or deceptive trade practices.”
