The portrait of the Queen that appears on British coins will change for the first time since 1998 next year. The Royal Mint said a new portrait will be chosen after a closed competition.
The current design, from Ian Rank-Broadley, is only the fourth version of the Queen's portrait to appear on coins. This is how it has changed since 1952, the year she came to the throne.
Mary Gillick's design was replaced by Arnold Machin's version in 1968.
