George Clooney's good deeds have been in the news a lot recently.
It was reported by Page Six that he and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, handed out personalised headphones to fellow passengers on a flight to apologise in advance for the noise their six-month-old twins, Ella and Alexander might make.
Which is very thoughtful.
Rande Gerber, the husband of supermodel Cindy Crawford and American entertainment and nightlife businessman, has spoken about Clooney's generosity in another incident, which took place 27 December 2013, a year to the day before he married his wife Amal.
George Clooney came from Kentucky and had a long journey to stardom. He became a Hollywood name following his portrayal of Dr Doug Ross on ER, but prior to that he'd fallen on some hard times, which he recently lectured Donald Trump on.
I grew up in Kentucky. I sold insurance door-to-door. I sold ladies’ shoes. I worked at an all-night liquor store. I would buy suits that were too big and too long and cut the bottom of the pants off to make ties so I’d have a tie to go on job interviews.
I grew up understanding what it was like to not have health insurance for eight years.
Rande Gerber said that Clooney had invited him and a group of friends, known as 'The Boys', around to his.
There's a group of guys that we call 'The Boys'. George had called me and 'The Boys' and said, 'Hey, mark September 27, 2013 on your calendar. Everyone's going to come to my house for dinner.'
George begins to say, 'Listen, I want you guys to know how much you've meant to me and how much you mean to me in my life. I came to Los Angeles, I slept on your couch. I'm so fortunate in my life to have all of you and I couldn't be where I am today without all of you.'
'So it was really important to me that while we're still all here together, that I give back.'
George then instructed them to open suitcases which had been given to them. The Daily Mail reports that Gerber said:
Every one of us - 14 of us - got a million dollars. Every single one of us. We're in shock. Like, what is this?
George then said:
He goes, 'I know we've all been through some hard times, some of you are still going through it. You don't have to worry about your kids, you don't have to worry about, you know, school, you don't have to worry about paying your mortgage'
One was working at a bar in Texas at the airport, trying just to support his family. Rides a bicycle to work every day. I mean these are guys that took care of George and now he's giving it all back. And George said, 'Not only that, I have paid everyone's taxes so this million dollars is yours.'
Rande, said he initially refused the gesture, saying he wouldn't take it. George then worked out a way to make sure everyone complied:
Immediately George goes, 'I'm just going to make one announcement. If Rande doesn't take the million dollars, nobody gets it.'
This is who George is!
A year later to the day, George Clooney married his wife, then Amal Alamuddin.
