Eva Mendes has opened up about her career and family.

In an appearance on the Australian radio show Fitzy & Wippa, Mendes explained that she didn’t want kids until she met her partner, Ryan Gosling. The actor said:

I was lucky enough to work my bum off for 20 years. I never wanted babies before until I fell in love with Ryan, and it kind of worked out to where I was 40 and having my first baby. I think I was 42 for the second one, so it worked out in that way that I had a career and then I changed my focus to my family.

The two met on the set of their film, The Place Beyond the Pines, and have been dating since 2011. They have two daughters together, but have kept their family’s life private.

Mendes was also asked if she would return to acting. It’s been a long time since we last saw the actor on cinema screens. After gaining fame from her roles in Training Day and Hitch, Mendes decided to walk away from acting to focus on her children. Her last role was in Gosling’s directorial debut from 2014, Lost River.

Luckily, she seems interested in putting an end to her acting hiatus. But she also explained that there is nothing wrong with finding a balance between work and family.

"I am now that [my kids] are getting a bit older,” she said. “But I really feel like I never want to send the wrong message to young women out there. It’s not an either/or situation."

She continued:

I'm thinking of definitely going back. I feel like it's time. The list is getting shorter and shorter of stuff that I’d do. I don't want to do anything violent, nothing risqué. I think the only thing that's left is Disney.

Well, we won’t object to Disney.
