Chrissy Teigen has come to the defence of Meghan Markle in a way only Chrissy Teigen would.
In a moving essay for The New York Times, the Duchess of Sussex revealed she had a miscarriage earlier this year. Markle wrote about the “unbearable grief” she and Prince Harry experienced after losing their second child.
The Duchess received praise from many for opening up about an issue that so many women feel reticent to talk about.
On the other hand, negative comments also came flooding in criticising her for the essay. And after one particular troll shared their thoughts, Teigen took to Twitter to clap back.
"Is anyone really questioning the pain and sheer awfulness of suffering a miscarriage, or are they perhaps criticising Meghan's decision to write a 1,000 word op-ed about herself?" the user wrote. "What does it add to the resources already available for those who go through a tragedy like this?"
In a tweet that has since been deleted, Teigen responded: “Award for today's absolute piece of s**t goes to [user]. Congratulations, piece of s**t.”
After the model removed the initial response, she followed it up with another explaining that she forgot that she’s “trying to be nicer”.
In October, Teigen also revealed in an Instagram post that she suffered from a miscarriage. “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she wrote.
John Legend and Teigen also appeared on Good Morning America earlier this week to talk about the loss of their child, with the latter saying:
"I definitely give myself permission to have complete and utter grief. Every day is so different. So when people ask me how I'm doing, I always say, 'I'm OK today.'"
People have praised Markle and Teigen for opening up about their experiences, and noted that the response to both proves why msicarriage is so stigmatised.
“The reactions to Meghan Markle and Chrissy Teigen going public about their miscarriages shows why so many people who go through the same suffer in silence,” one user wrote. “The cruelty of the trolls proves why it’s necessary to destigmatize miscarriages.”
The discussion that has erupted since Markle’s essay was published is a testament to why it’s vital to remove the taboos associated with miscarriages.
