Ben Carson, the Housing and Urban Development secretary for the United States, a creationist neurosurgeon who said slaves were immigrants and once boasted about the time he tried to stab someone, got stuck in a lift on Wednesday.
He was touring an affordable housing complex, in Courtside Family Apartments in Overtown, Miami.
Firefighters rescued Carson after he and six others were stuck in the lift for around 20 minutes as press and former Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning, who helped develop the complex, waited for him.
Twitter, of course, loved it, given his unsympathetic views towards public housing, which he believes too many people use:
Some argued that Ben should seek to lift himself out of the situation:
In a 2015 interview with CNN, Carson spoke negatively about aid for disadvantaged people and social care programmes. He spoke disparagingly about people...
... Who take the disadvantaged people in our country and say, 'You poor little thing, I’m going to give you everything that you possibly need.
That’s not helping those people, and all that you have to do is look what's happened since the Great Society programs of Lyndon Johnson.
We’ve spent $19 trillion and we have 10 times more people on food stamps, more people in poverty, more broken homes, out of wedlock births, crime, incarceration.
Everything is not only worse, it’s much worse. You’d have to be kind of stupid to look at that and not realise that that’s a failure and to say we just didn’t do enough of it.
That’s what I call stupid.
In the same interview he argued that Fox News was the only thing keeping the United States from becoming Cuba.
