Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis recently made the headlines after admitting they do not bathe their children every day, an admission that sparked a big debate.
Now, days later, the A-list couple have responded to the debate, in a characteristically amusing way.
Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast, Kutcher said he, his wife and their two children – daughter Wyatt, six, and four-year-old son Dimitri – adopt the same bathing habits.
“I wasn’t that parent that bathed my newborns, ever,” Kunis, 37, said. “If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there’s no point.”
Now Kutcher and Kunis have shared a video on Instagram poking fun at the whole debate surrounding their comments.
In the clip, the couple were standing in their bathroom as they washed their children. Kutcher said: “You’re putting water on the children? Are you trying to melt them?
“Are you trying to injure them with water? This is ridiculous. What’s going on?”
“We’re bathing our children,” Kunis replied in laughter.
“That’s like the fourth time this week, four times this week. Their body oils are going to be destroyed.”
For the post caption, Kutcher wrote: “This bathing thing is out of hand.”
Fans of the actors took to the comments section to share their amusement at Kutcher’s video.
One person wrote: “ I love the way you deal with the stupid press...so funny.”
“I was wondering when you guys would address the madness. People made such a huge drama with 5 words. You’re good sport (and great parents I’m pretty sure too),” another person said.
Someone else replied: “ I f***ing love this couple.”
“This is great! Glad you can laugh about how crazy people have gotten over it. Hopefully they’ll leave you alone now. Ha,” a fourth person added.
The original comments came after the couple had agreed with podcast host Dax Shepard’s remarks that using soap every day rids the body of natural oils.
“I didn’t have hot water growing up as a child so I didn’t shower very much anyway,” Kunis, who was born in the Soviet Union, said. She also said she washes her face twice a day.
While Kutcher said he does wash his “armpits and my crotch daily” and tends to “throw some water on my face after a workout to get all the salts out.”
Fellow celebs even weighed in, with Jack Gyllenhaal admitting to a similar laidback routine, and said he finds bathing to be “less necessary at times” whereas Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson disagreed and said he is “the opposite of a ‘not washing themselves’ celeb” and showers three times a day.
Nope, I’m the opposite of a “not washing themselves” celeb. Shower (cold) when I roll outta bed to get my day roll… https://t.co/OnPiUtVD8x— Dwayne Johnson (@Dwayne Johnson) 1628305873
Doctors have also added their knowledge to the discussion, with Dr. Sarah Welsh, gynaecology doctor and co-founder at HANX, explaining that you probably don’t need to shower more than three times a week “unless you are visibly dirty or sweaty.”
