Brennan Suen, a gay man, took these words to heart and decided to speak to his 94-year-old grandmother about the upcoming election.
His grandma has always voted Republican. She was previously a Bush supporter.
But Suen, who was “filled with anxiety” about having to convince his grandmother, knew that he needed to persuade her to vote for Joe Biden.
What prompted him to eventually do this was the news that justices Thomas and Alito might seek to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges.

This was a landmark case, in 2015, which brought marriage equality to all 50 states in America.
Suen wrote:
I have never called her crying, but I did today. I told her that in my work, I advocate for my community every day, and the last four years has been unbearably difficult for me. I told her the Republicans are trying to take away our right to marry, adopt, access health care.
He told her that a “vote for Republicans was a vote that would harm me and my future” and that he was “scared”.
In the end, his grandmother promised to vote for Joe Biden.
In the thread that has now been shared thousands of times, he urged followers to call their loved ones and explain what is at stake.
