With Donald Trump now seemingly resorting to the use of noises rather than real words and Chris Christie's suggestion of putting barcodes on human beings to crack down on illegal immigration, you could probably be forgiven for thinking that US politics couldn't get any more ridiculous.
But if Kanye West's VMAs speech last night was anything to go by, then you'd be wrong.
At the end of a rambling 15-minute monologue, the man who once called himself the best musician since Beethoven and has compared himself to Jesus told assembled guests:
Yes, as you probably could've guessed by this moment, I have decided, in 2020, to run for president.
Justifying his decision earlier in the speech (which you can watch here), West told the crowd: "It don't matter though, 'cause it ain't about me. It's about ideas, bro."
Right.
