After a sad, sad week, the responses to this man's question will restore your faith in humanity

This month has been pretty damn awful. We don't need to remind you as to why.

So, on Friday, composer Nick Harvey decided he'd try to "lift the mood". He asked Twitter to tell him things that have made people smile.

Often, hopeful attempts at trying to make life a little better are cast into a void. But luckily for Nick - and many others - people responded admirably.

The replies he received will surely help to restore your faith in humanity. Wherever there is darkness, there is always something good to hold onto, somewhere.

Even if it's just a dog in a tent...

...an accidental penis...

Or, simply, a jam sandwich.

Animals were, naturally, a recurrent theme.

Because nature is beautiful.

Much like cake. A tremendous cake, we should say.

But 'failed' cake works too.

Sometimes all it takes to find a moment of joy is a small person saying something beyond their years.

It happens more than you think.

Kids being kids is also lovely.

Or, as Nick encouraged, a random act of kindness. Trivial is fine.

As are instances of greater magnitude - like an entire community building a better life for its resident ducks.

And this.

See also: cats.

Especially cats that defy commonality.

Or rabbits...

There we go then.

Thanks, Nick.
