This past year has seen Barack Obama witness a series of lasts - the last State of the Union address, the last time he got to speak at the UN as president, the last thread of patience as he watches his country fall into the (tiny, tiny) hands of a demagogue...

The latest in this series of lasts was Halloween at the White House.

Each year, the president and his wife host schoolchildren from across the country at their residence - handing out treats and trying to avoid too many tricks.

The kids always put a lot of effort into their costumes.
