Images showing a woman’s skull before and after reconstructive surgery are causing amazement across the internet.

The CT scans from a 25-year-old woman show the dramatic damage to the skull after she was involved in a serious car crash, followed by the end result after an eight hour reconstructive procedure.

The surgery took place in 2015 but the images have recently been widely shared across reddit and Imgur.

The surgeon who posted the pictures on medical website Figure 1, said.

A trauma work-up revealed a traumatic brain injury with intracranial hemorrhage, a traumatic eye injury requiring enucleation, and extensive facial fractures.

This CT shows her completed facial reconstruction. Thanks to a dedicated multidisciplinary team, the patient is now ambulatory and recovering well.

Many medical professionals commented on the post and praised the surgeon for his work, with some describing it as a “masterpiece”.

“Literally spectacular. Medicine at its finest right there!” a nurse commented.

“You and your team did incredible work! Those 3D image scans are the coolest thing I have seen,” another comment says.

The surgeon was keen to stress the woman is now “doing well and looks great”.
