Trump gets roasted by an archaeologist after falsely claiming that a 'wheel is older than a wall'

On Thursday, Donald Trump flew out to the Texas border with Mexico in an attempt to build a stronger case for his controversial border wall.

During a press conference, where he was flanked by tearful families who had loved ones killed by illegal immigrants and unpaid border patrol agents affected by the government shutdown, the president made a bizarre claim.

When responding to criticism that his proposal for the border wall is a 'medieval' policy, Trump boldly claimed that it wasn't and that decided to bring up the history of the humble wheel.

They say a wall is medieval. Well, a wheel is older than a wall.

OK......

Trump then continued his rambling speech by talking about the expensive cars that the Secret Service use and the wheels on those vehicles.

And I looked, and every single car out there, even the really expensive ones that the Secret Service uses - and believe me they are expensive - I said, ‘Do they all have wheels?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Oh. I thought it was medieval.’

The wheel is older than the wall. You know that? There are some things that work. A wheel works and a wall works.

Trump's argument really doesn't make much sense at all and it's not entirely obvious where he got this logic from.

If he would have done just a little bit of research he would have found that walls actually predate wheels by a couple of thousand years.

Don't believe us? Then take a look at what archaeologist Sarah Parcak posted in reply to a tweet featuring Trump's bizarre statement.

Walls ca 8000 BC > Wheel ca 3100 BC.

Sorry, Mr Trump but you have just failed archaeology and basic history 101.

Just in case you doubted Parcak's credentials, others also pulled the president up on this blatant ignorance of historical facts.

Still, this is unlikely to stop Trump and his adamant pursuit of the wall as he again stated on Thursday that he will declare a state of emergency if he doesn't get the funding that he requires.
