Trump seems to think that the president of Ukraine is Russian

Donald Trump has called Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky the “new Russian president” in a rambling rant about intelligence committee chairman Adam Schiff and the Democrat-led impeachment inquiry.

Answering questions from reporters about the whistleblower who has come forward with direct knowledge of an alleged plot by Trump to push Ukraine into producing dirt on Joe Biden, his 2020 election Democratic rival.

After delivering a rant about the “whistleblower,” in which he disparaged the claims they made, he went on to talk about Ukraine.

He said:

The new Russian president…a good man…made a statement. There was no – anything – there was no pressure put on him. No anything.

Volodymr Zelensky is the new Ukrainian president. Not Russia.

The tense relationship between Russia and the Ukraine means this was a particularly awkward misstep on the part of Trump.

He continued on a ramble:

The foreign minister of Ukraine made a statement. There was absolutely no pressure put on…they didn’t even know what we were talking about and just to finish it off, Adam Schiff went up before congress and he made up my words. He didn’t copy what I said.

Nobody thought I was going to release the conversation.

I got the approval from Ukraine. Once I release the conversation, this thing will all die. And that’s what they should be looking.

Adam Schiff, what he did, will never be forgotten. He made up a conversation that was a phony fabrication, it was a fraud. And people shouldn’t be allowed to get away…they say he is has immunity? Because he’s a member of congress. What he did is a criminal act.
