Matt Groening confirms one of the oldest Simpsons fan theories about Michael Jackson

Guys, it's official: Michael Jackson was once on The Simpsons.

Matt Groening had kept mum about that little fact for many years, but he finally admitted it to speculative fans.

In the episode titled Stark Raving Dad, a psychiatric patient introduced himself as Michael Jackson.

The character asks: 'Hello? Who is this?'

Bart Simpson replies: 'I'm Bart Simpson, who the hell are you?'

I'm Michael Jackson.

Bart's 'No way!' was echoed by lots of viewers in the 1991 episode.

The character looked nothing like the King of Pop, with his beer gut and balding hair, but many people compared the voice to the singer, who died in 2009 at the age of 50.

Fans were confused because the character was credited to John Jay smith at the end of the episode.

And now, after years of speculation, Groening finally confirms the truth.

During an interview with Australian TV show The Weekly, he said:

We really did he have him.

Jackson had cold-called Groening himself and the director initially thought it was a prank call and hung up. But he really wanted to do the show, so he called him again.

He did the show, he didn't want credit for it - it was some kind of deal with his record company or whatever. So when it came time to sing the songs, he had a soundalike singer. And he stood there and watched the guy who was so nervous, who had to sound like Michael Jackson.

The King of Pop 'giggled' in the background.

So there you have it, your suspicions were, in fact correct.
