Evangelical leader blames mass shootings on teaching evolution

An Evangelical leader has claimed that mass shootings in America are caused by “driving God from the public square” and teaching children about evolution.

The comments were made in the aftermath of shootings in Texas this week, when Fox News interviewed Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, an American fundamentalist Protestant activist group which opposes abortion and same-sex marriage.

Perkins said: “We have taught our kids that they come about by chance through primordial slime, and then we're surprised that they choose to treat their fellow Americans like dirt."

He also seemed to suggest that gun control would not be beneficial in helping to end mass shootings, of which there have been 283 so far this year.

"The problem is not the absence of laws, it is the absence of morality," he continued, saying he is an "ardent supporter" of the second amendment of the constitution, which gives Americans the right to bear arms.

Many people have pointed out the obvious flaws in his argument.
