So it turns out Taylor Swift has an utterly bizarre neo-Nazi fan base

Just when you thought Taylor Swift had stopped clogging up your newsfeed, along comes a story about her that's actually insanely interesting.

So here goes: TayTay is being worshipped as an "Aryan goddess" by somewhat imaginative neo-Nazis on the internet.

According to the wishful thinking of the online fascist alt-right community, Swift has been using her music to covertly spread racist ideals since she was a young 'un - as Broadly reports, the existence of Swift/Hitler quote mashup memes dates back a few years.

While her own political views are a million miles away – she told Rolling Stone magazine after Barack Obama’s election in 2008:

I've never seen this country so happy about a political decision in my entire time of being alive. I'm so glad this was my first election.

Some of this stuff is absolutely bats--t. Take this, for example, from an alt-right blog called The Daily Stormer:

Firstly, Taylor Swift is a pure Aryan goddess, like something out of classical Greek poetry. Athena reborn. That's the most important thing.

Right. The blog goes on:

It is also an established fact that Taylor Swift is secretly a Nazi and is simply waiting for the time when Donald Trump makes it safe for her to come out and announce her Aryan agenda to the world. Probably, she will be betrothed to Trump's son, and they will be crowned American royalty.

Swift herself is not often forthcoming on her own political views - which might be why the blue-eyed, blonde-haired singer has been picked up as an ideal blank canvas by fascists as "embodying the Aryan spirit".

indy100 spoke to someone on Swift's team, who refused to comment.

We can only assume Swift herself won't be too impressed by the ardour of her new fandom. As one of the alt-right community put it in an email to Broadly:

The entire alt-right patiently awaits the day when we can lay down our swords and kneel before her throne as she commands us to go forth and slaughter the subhuman enemies of the Aryan race.
