The White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was adamant that Donald Trump's inauguration was the best attended ever. Period.
Several news outlets have shown that the figures Spicer quoted to back this up, were inaccurate.
Spicer accused the media of "false reporting", and spoke with ardent certainty when he said:
This was the largest audience to ever witness the inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe.
This has been easily disputed with figures from Washington DC's public transportation system, and by quotes from United States Secret Servicemen, as well as painfully obvious comparisons between aerial images of Obama's and Trump's inauguration.
His lack of self-doubt while misleading the public has reminded many of the tall tales we'd share in the playground.
The hashtag #SpicerFacts plays on similar themes.
