Incredibly rare yellow albino turtle discovered by farmer in India

A farmer in India has found an incredibly rare yellow turtle.

Basudev Mahapatra saw the turtle while he was working in his fields in the village of Sujanpur, in Odisha's Balasore district.

Mahapatra handed the turtle over to forest officials, who called in conservation experts to examine it. It is thought that the turtle is albino.

Siddhartha Pati, executive director at the Association for Biodiversity Conservation, said it was the first time he had seen this kind of turtle.

It is a congenital disorder and it is characterised by complete or partial absence of tyrosine pigment.

Also, sometimes a mutation takes place in the gene sequence or there is a deficiency of tyrosine.

After being studied by experts, the turtle was released back into the wild.

This isn’t the first time that albino turtles have amazed wildlife experts. In 2016, a newly hatched and very rare albino green turtle was spotted on an Australian beach.
