While most people watching the Queen's Speech on Wednesday were speculating about the whether her hat was a subliminal message about Brexit or what Tory manifesto promises did and didn't make it in - others were more concerned about the her safety.

To the extent someone actually called 999 to report her for not wearing a seatbelt.

The Queen was reported to West Yorkshire Police after an eagle-eyed viewer noticed she wasn't wearing a seat belt on the way to the State Opening of Parliament with Prince Charles.

While the incident took place in Westminister, the caller was in West Yorkshire and hence was put through to his or her local police force.

Tom Donohoe, of West Yorkshire Police, told the BBC

I cannot stress enough that the 999 number is for emergencies only. The force typically received more than 1,000 emergency calls a day.

While the Queen isn't really setting a good example by not wearing her seatbelt, the 999 call was in vain, as under UK law, civil and criminal proceedings cannot be taken against the Monarch.

Non-Royals however, can be fined £500 for not wearing a seatbelt.

Her Majesty's press office says it will not comment on the incident, but the Royal Family website states:

The Queen is careful to ensure that all her activities in her personal capacity are carried out in strict accordance with the law.
