Piers Morgan tried to turn on some Christmas lights and failed miserably

Piers Morgan might not be everyone's cup of tea, but when he tried to spread some Christmas cheer this week he successfully drew quite a crowd.

The people of Stockbridge in Hampshire flocked to see the journalist and TV presenter turn on the town's Christmas lights and kick off the festive season.

According to Morgan himself, the event was going to be something akin to "Beatlemania" so you'd be a fool to miss out.

It actually proved to be unmissable for a completely different reason.

When it came to the moment for Morgan to push the plunger and switch on the lights, nothing happened.

To make matters worse for Piers, the electrical error was broadcast live on ITV Meridian, so most of the South East of England would have seen it too.

If this was anyone but Piers Morgan people would probably feel a bit sorry for them.

Unsurprisingly, the 52-year-old didn't respond very well to this unfortunate event.

He didn't take kindly to the Twitter Moments which was created in honour of the moment either.

He's now more concerned about his Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid playing the footage on Monday morning.

Luckily she already seems to have the perfect plan in place.

ITV Sport presenter Mark Pougatch seems to have an idea who might be responsible for this mishap.
