There are very few millennials who haven't binged through the entire ten seasons of the American sitcom Friends.
We know every episode, every scene, every joke. But, depending on where you live, you may have missed out on an integral part of the plot.
Jane Sibbett and Jessica Hecht, who played Ross’s ex-wife Carol and her girlfriend Susan, have revealed that their characters’ wedding, featured in The One With the Lesbian Wedding, from series 2 in 1996, was banned in several countries – and even in parts of Texas and Ohio in the US.
Sibbett said on Lorraine on ITV:
It was the first lesbian wedding to ever be shown on TV and they blocked it out in some affiliates.
But it all worked out as we got so much press because they blocked it. We actually won awards for that storyline.
And the scene really made an impact on the public.

Sibbett added:
I remember meeting a man at one awards ceremony that was held by an organisation that works with gay families.
He said to me that if he'd had Carol and Susan as role models when he was a young boy, he probably wouldn't have tried to [die by] suicide so many times. I hadn't even thought of that.
Here's a clip from that episode if you want to watch it:
