Laser razor banned from Kickstarter 'because it doesn't exist'

We probably all knew that the prospect of shaving with a 'laser razor' was too good to be true.

When the news broke that the environmentally-friendly, soap- and water-free devices could be reality as early as March 2016, donations to the Kickstarter project started pouring in.

The Swedish laser razor visionaries 'Skarp' smashed their fundraising goal of $160,000, raising more than $4million in total, making it one of the most successful campaigns in the crowdfunding site's history.

But now Kickstarter has suspended the fundraising page, citing the fact that Skarp broke the rules because a working prototype doesn't exist yet:

After requesting and reviewing additional material from the creator of the project, we’ve concluded that it is in violation of our rule requiring working prototypes of physical products that are offered as rewards. Accordingly, all funding has been stopped and backers will not be charged for their pledges.

Once Kickstarter has decided to pull a project the decision can't be unmade, but Skarp has already started a new fundraiser at IndieGoGo.

Several commenters on the Reddit thread 'Shitty Kickstarters' have denounced the idea as 'unworkable' and have questioned the scientific competence of the team.
