Football may not be everyone's favourite sport but its enjoyment shouldn't be exclusive to one gender.

Unfortunately, the laws in Iran prevent women from attending live football matches or events in the country.

This law has been in place since the 1979 Islamic revolution, where officials believe that women should be protected from the sometimes hostile and vulgar nature of a football game.

However, five women seemingly attempted to find a way around this archaic ruling by attending a trophy and medal presentation dressed convincingly as men.

A post on Reddit from the user dareeza reportedly showed the five women, clad in wigs and false beards posing for the photo in the stands.

The photo supposedly took place at the Azadi stadium in the Iranian capital, Tehran where Persepolis were presented with their eleventh title of the champions of Iran.

Persepolis beat Sepidrood 3-0 in the final match of the season to win the Persian Golf Pro League trophy.

Images on Instagram have also emerged of a woman disguised as a man in attendance at the stadium.

It has not been reported whether the women in the picture were caught and whether they will face any consequences should their identities be revealed.

This wouldn't be the first time that women have attempted to attend a football game in Iran.

Back in March, 35 women attempted to enter the stadium to see a game between Persepolis and Esteqlal, where FIFA President Gianni Infantino was present but were detained.

The 2006 film Offside by director Jafar Panahi focuses on a similar story after Panahi's own daughter attempted to attend a match in the city.

Infantino has reportedly spoken to the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani where he was promised that talks will take place about the possibility of female representation at Iranian football games in the future.
