Jacob Rees-Mogg made a cameo on the general election campaign trail at Monkton Combe in Somerset recently, where he was promptly asked the one question he apparently had no answer to.

So... on the Grenfell thing. Do you feel ashamed?

A video of the exchange, shared by Bath Labour Party's Twitter account, shows Rees-Mogg's baffling answer to the question.

I'm just here to canvas for the election.

Errr, right.

He then tries to fob the person in question off with a business card, before walking off while saying (in perhaps the least convincing tone we've ever heard):

I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Literally not 25 seconds since after being asked the question, Rees-Mogg completely disappears.

The awkwardness is so palpable it's almost enough to make you feel sorry for him.

Almost.
