Everyone loves this video of Helen Mirren shutting down a 'sexist' interview with Michael Parkinson

An interview from 1975, where actor Helen Mirren shuts down sexist questioning from TV host Michael Parkinson has resurfaced on social media.

In the video, which captures what is believed to be 30-year-old Mirren's first talk show appearance, Parkinson makes comments about her "equipment", refers to a comment made about Mirren that she is "telling at projecting sluttish eroticism" and asks if her "physical attributes" hinder her from being a "serious actor".

After he asks if she is a "serious actress", to which she responds "how dare you", Parkinson proceeds to ask her if "what can be best described as your equipment" hinders her acting ability?

After a few painfully awkward and anger-inducing moments, Mirren says: "Serious actresses can't have big bosoms, is that what you mean?"

Parkinson replies "it might distract from the performance."

"Eugh - that can't necessarily be true," says Mirren. "What a crummy performance if people are obsessed with the size of your bosom or anything else. I hope that the performance and the play overcome such boring questions."

The clip of this interview seems to resurface every few years - and the public reaction is always angry, shocked and full of admiration for Mirren. It just shows the years of sexism Mirren and her actor colleagues have endured and fought against.

Mirren was about to play Lady Macbeth when she appeared on Parkinson's talk show. She told the Telegraph in 2011: "I was terrified. I watched it and I actually thought, bloody hell!

"I did really well. I was so young and inexperienced. And he was such a f--king sexist old fart. He was. He denies it to this day that it was sexist, but of course he was."
