Eric Trump says he is ‘just trying to have a good time’ on taxpayers’ money

While Donald Trump was busy lying through his teeth to Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, his two male offspring embarked on a pub crawl of Ireland, arguably doing more to savage diplomacy than their father by leaving a trail of criminally poured pints of Guinness in their wake.

After their jaunt to meet Britain’s royal family, the Trump cohort descended upon the president’s Doonbeg golf resort in County Clare.

The village of 754 people were genuinely delighted to welcome the family, whose golf course employs around 300 people and is vital for the town’s economy, however BBC journalist Nuala McGovern brought the party crashing back to reality with a single question to Eric Trump.

Is this a good use of taxpayers’ money?

After posing for selfies with fans and before ducking into another pub, the property tycoon’s son simply said:

We’re just trying to have a good time.

Needless to say, many were incensed at the thought of President Trump's children enjoying a family holiday at the expense of US citizens.

A White House official told CBS that President Trump's sons "are personally paying" for the trip.

However, it also emerged that the family managed to splash nearly $1 million (£788,000) of taxpayers' money on four limousines from an Irish funeral director.

According to The Guardian, the vehicles could have been used for a short trip in Doonbeg to the tune of $116,879 (£91,929) per mile.

However, that potentially pales in comparison to other expenses...
