Donald Trump Jr went on The View yesterday to defend his father in one of the most cursed episodes of daytime TV ever made.
Trump Jr was appearing on the talk show to promote his book "Triggered" but inevitably ended up getting into a mind-numbing series of arguments about impeachment and his father's conduct.
After trading blows on the topics of "liberal bias" and whether it is okay to identify a whistleblower, the panel took a personal turn with the introduction of Meghan McCain.
McCain, who is the daughter of late senator John McCain, had been conspicuously quiet during the first segment of the show.
She broke her silence to challenge Trump Jr over how his father has "hurt a lot of people".
Although McCain mentioned other victims of Trump's attacks, her comment appeared to be an indirect reference to the president's feud with her late father.
In 2016, Trump attacked the senator over the time he spent as a prisoner of war in Vietnam and claimed he was not a war hero.
He added:
He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.
Meanwhile, Trump Jr has become an unofficial press spokesperson for the Trump administration in recent years by appearing on TV and relentlessly tweeting in defence of his father.
Some political commentators noted how ridiculous it was for the show to dissolve into an argument between two children of wealthy Republican politicians fighting for the reputation of their fathers.
Regardless of who "won" the debate, the whole episode was a strong case for why we should never let people on TV just because they have a famous dad.
